The Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA) Regular Membership Meeting for September was a luncheon session held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Shaw's Crab House in Schaumburg, IL. The program featured industry updates, an Association special acknowledgement, a welcome to a new ECA staff member, and guest presentations by Chris Nybo, ECA State Lobbyist and Harry Benton, Illinois State Representative, 97th District.
Highlights of the program included a number of Committee Reports by the Chairs of several Committees: Kendra Dinkins, ECA Research and Education (R & E) Committee Chair, ECA Vice President, Taylor Electric Company; Jerry McGlynn, ECA Safety Committee Chair, McWilliams Electric Company, Inc.; and Mike Meyer, ECA Student Committee Chair, Continental Electrical Construction Company.

The Student Committee is sponsoring four students and Dr. Tomal, IIT Facilitator, for the full NECA Convention. The Student Chapter did not place in the top three for the Electrical Contracting Innovation Challenge (ECIC) submittal. However, the NECA-IIT Student Chapter is a finalist for the “Student Chapter of the Year.”
Other industry reports included updates from the Young Professionals Committee (submitted by Neil Parish, ECA's new Director of Operations) – a successful Leadership Conference that was held August 14 – 15, 2025; Powering Chicago (Elbert Walters, III - Powering Chicago Executive Director) and EJATT (Gene Kent, INTECH Director), among other reports.
Just before the featured presentations, Dan Durkin, Sr., Durkin Electric Company, Inc. received the ECA Recognition of Excellence Award (2024). Congratulations, Dan!
The presentations by Chris Nybo, ECA State Lobbyist and Harry Benton, Illinois State Representative, 97th District, regarded current legislation impacting the industry, the upcoming Veto Session and a legislative outlook for 2026.
We thank all of our presenters and look forward to the next Membership Meeting, which is to be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at INTECH. Don Finn, Local 134 Business Manager is the guest presenter. This program is open to all signatory Local 134 contractors. We hope to see you, there!
