The Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago (ECA) Research and Education Committee was pleased to have presented a seminar called, "Understanding Construction Accounting." The seminar was conducted by Dave O'Brien, Mosley, Pfundt & Glick, Inc. The program was held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. at Maggiano's Banquets in Oak Brook, IL.
An understanding of construction accounting is essential for the success of your business. The course covered topics such as revenue recognition methods, the components of contract costs, how to calculate revenue earned, balance sheet accounts that are unique to contractors and key financial ratios for contractors.
Following this course, participants will be able to:
- Calculate job costs
- List components of contract costs
- Give examples of methods to measure percentage of completion and revenue earned
- Explain how to calculate financial ratios

Dave has an extensive background in assurance and accounting with an emphasis in real estate, construction, manufacturing and distribution. His primary focus is in the construction industry with clientele such as general, electrical, sheet metal, mechanical, flooring, fire protection and landscape contractors, home builders, land developers and numerous other contractors. Dave has been a speaker for many years doing conferences throughout the states for various construction industries.
Dave is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Society of Certified Public Accountants in Ohio, Michigan and Nevada. He is also affiliated with the Construction Industry CPA's/Consultants Association (CICPAC) and the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA). Dave is a graduate of California State University at Chico, California.
