Program description:

Building upon the principles taught in NECA's Basic Estimating course, this course focuses on the strategy and business decisions made during the estimating and bidding processes. The course will assist estimators and managers think strategically in how they find, evaluate, and bid electrical construction projects.

Following this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the estimator’s role and responsibilities throughout the bidding process.
  • Define estimating terminology.
  • Evaluate bidding opportunities for most desirable projects.
  • Analyze factors that have effects on cost and labor productivity.
  • Evaluate the potential risk factors of a project.
  • Discuss the risks and responsibilities identified in the project specifications, labor agreements, scope letters, and standard contracts.
  • Describe the difference between overhead and profit and how they are applied to estimates.

Prerequisite: Basic Estimating of Electrical Construction or similar industry experience.

Advanced Estimating September 16 17 2024

Glenn G. De Soto is the Principal of GGD Associates, LLC, a construction consulting firm. Glenn is a former IBEW/NECA contractor who has over 35 years of experience in the electrical construction industry, from apprentice to contractor. Glenn is a former director on the Board of Directors of the Southern Sierra’s Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and former committee member of the IBEW/NECA Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of Riverside County, California. He is also a card-carrying member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He serves as a member of the NECA Manual of Labor Units Committee Task-force and has served on various industry committees throughout his career. He has worked on various projects across the United States, which has given him a broad vantage point of the construction industry, which in turn has been a great educational tool for him.
