Week of July 12th: Unconscious Bias "Toolbox Talk"
This Toolbox Talk reminds us that unconscious biases (also known as implicit bias) are social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside their own conscious awareness. Everyone holds unconscious beliefs about various social and identity groups, and these biases stem from one’s tendency to organize social worlds by putting people into categories. Many unconscious biases tend to be exhibited toward minority groups based on factors such as class, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, nationality, religious beliefs, age, disability and more.
Download this Toolbox Talk Discussion Card and follow the instructions to have a conversation with your team this week about unconscious bias.
Week of July 19th: How Bias Hijacks the Brain
Take a moment this week to watch this video from Alex Willis, and think about how Unconscious Bias can Hijack your Brain.
This is a simple, yet powerful exercise, to complete as an individual (not a team discussion).
Week of July 26th: Toolbox Talk - Evaluating Beliefs & Assumptions
In this toolbox talk, you and your team will review the importance of engaging with others who hold views different than your own. You will also explore why this is ultimately beneficial for team dynamic.
