The ECA Student Committee would like to thank Matt Kamber, Project Engineer, Gurtz Electric Co. for his special on-line presentation held during a NECA-IIT Student Chapter session on Thursday, September 19, 2024 regarding Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design & Construction Services VDC), as this year’s Electrical Contracting Innovation Challenge (ECIC) primarily concerned BIM use, among other areas concerning a project. 

Mr. Kamber was a former IIT student that participated with the Student Chapter.  He was also able to visit the NECA Convention in 2022 through the sponsorship of the ECA Student Committee.  At that time, he was able to meet with representatives of Gurtz Electric Co. for a potential internship, but was hired full time. 

His presentation gave a background of the diversity of projects Gurtz Electric Co. has completed over the years.  He discussed the various aspects of BIM & VDC applicable to the recent Gurtz projects, including the St. Regis Hotel in Chicago.  Again, we thank Matt for his assistance!

We also wish to acknowledge four students and Dr. Dan Tomal, IIT Facilitator, who are to participate with the NECA Convention in San Diego.  The four NECA-IIT Student Chapter students are:  Lukasz Pawlik, Victor A. Quinones Rocha, Stefana Sas-Pawlik and Zoe Zylstra.
