ECA Regular Membership Meeting was held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.

The session was held at the Union League Club in Chicago, IL.

The May ECA Membership Meeting was held the evening of Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the Union League Club in Chicago. The meeting featured a number of industry updates and was highlighted by a presentation from the new Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Buildings, Matthew Beaudet.  Commissioner Beaudet thanked the ECA for the opportunity to speak on behalf of the Chicago Department of Buildings (DOB).  He acknowledged his staff present:  Marlene Hopkins, First Deputy Commissioner, Grant Ullrich, Managing Deputy Commissioner, Carl Byrd, Deputy Commissioner, Mimi Simons, Director of Public Affairs, and Michael Reynolds, Chief Electrical Inspector.  

Commissioner Beaudet discussed several topic areas, including the following: 

• Continued activity at the Department of Buildings (DOB) during the pandemic
• Electrical and overall permit issuance update
• Outlining of the Code review process going forward
• Renewable energy / decarbonization efforts by the DOB / City of Chicago
• Use of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), among other areas.

The Commissioner and his staff were met with a round of applause at the conclusion of the presentation. We thank the Commissioner and his staff with their time with the meeting!
