ECA January 2020 Membership Meeting

Here are highlights of the January 9, 2020 ECA Regular Membership Meeting.

ECA January Membership Meeting

The Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago (ECA) held its first meeting of the year on Thursday, January 9, 2020 during the Electric Association Annual Conference held at the Drury Lane Conference Center in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.  

Highlights of the meeting include the following:  

  • President Jamerson gave a brief recap on the Election of Officers and the ECA Committee Chairmen appointments from the ECA Executive Committee meeting held on January 8, 2020.  He also welcomed the newest Executive Committee member: Michael Schwarz, Advent Systems LLC.  
     
  • President Jamerson reported that the Chapter has reached its PLC goal level. A general NECA legislative update was distributed including information concerning full repeal of the “Cadillac Tax,” allowing 529 saving accounts to be used for costs associated with DOL registered apprenticeship programs, and a seven-year re-authorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program. 
  • President Jamerson reported that the Executive Committee reviewed the 2019 Budget and accepted the proposed budget of income and expenses for the Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA) for 2020.
     
  • President Jamerson introduced the guest speaker, Ms. Beth Ellis, NECA Executive Director, Convention-Exposition.  She announced that the Convention registration will begin on June 4, 2020 in regard to the NECA Convention being held in Chicago on October 3 - 6, 2020.  The Chicago & Cook County Chapter, NECA is to have a Welcome Reception on Friday, October 2, 2020 at the United Club space at Soldier Field.  She also announced that the Rebuilding Chicago Together charity will be promoted throughout the Convention with opportunities for involvement from NECA Chapters throughout the nation.  Ms. Ellis also announced that an Apprenticeship Challenge is being formulated with the assistance of INTECH and Powering Chicago.  She encouraged all to participate with the Convention’s many seminars, educational programming, guest presenter sessions, the Opening Event at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, among many other areas. 

We thank Beth for her time at the meeting!  The next ECA Regular Membership meeting is on February 12, 2020 at the Union League Club in Chicago.  The guest presenter is Chicago Department of Buildings Commissioner Judy Frydland.  We hope that you can join us for another informative session!
